North India has some of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. This article will go though the best tourist places North India has to offer. The 7 prominent states of India together make North India include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

1) Jammu and Kashmir

The location of Jammu and Kashmir marks the northern most region of India and rightly signifies as the Crown of India! The snow capped mountains, chilli weather, mesmerizing scenes, beautiful people and a place that will leave you overwhelming!

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir is famous for beautiful floating houseboats. The valley of Kashmir, The Dal Lake, The Mughal Gardens and “The Temple of Shankaracharya” are the main attractions in Srinagar you should visit.

Leh, Jammu and Ladakh collectively offers the most wonderful places in India. Dha-Hanu, Nubra Valley, Zanskar, Central Ladhak, Changthang Area, Pangong Tso and Suru Valley are some of the best places to visit in Ladakh. The Raghunath Mandir, Dargah of Peer Budhan Ali Shah and Bawey Wali Mata or Mahamaya temple are some of the places will give you the glimpses of divinity in this part of North India.

2) Himachal Pradesh

Trekking, mountaineering, paragliding, fishing, ice-skating, skiing and golfing are the popular things to do in Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in the middle Himalayas in Northern India. The best of all the attractions in the city include State Museum, Sankat Mochan temple, Tara Devi, Mashobra, Chadwick Falls, Bhargaon and Prospect Hill and Kamna Devi.

Kullu Manali is a picturesque hill station and a wonderful place for nature lovers. The famous spots here are Rohtang Pass, Jagatsukh, Vashisht Ashram and Gayatri Devi and Devi Sharvali Kothi.

Dalhausi, Dharamsala and Kangra are two more famous tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

3) Punjab

Chandigarh is one of those rare cities in India which serves as the capital of two states i.e. Punjab and Haryana. Since it is not under the jurisdiction of either state it is classified as union territory. Sukhna Lake, Punjab Kala Kendra, The Rock Garden, International dolls museum, Child Art Gallery, Museum of the evolution of life and Government Museum and Art gallery are the common places in the city that attracts travellers from all over India. Foreign tourists can also check them out.

Amritsar is well known for its Golden Templethe most sacred religious shrine for Sikhs. Apart from this world famous temple you may want to visit the two historic spots Jallianwala Bagh and Ram Bagh (the summer palace of King or Maharaja Ranjit Singh).

4) Uttaranchal

Dehradun is the capital city of Uttaranchal and is the home of the Indian military Academy. Durbar Shri Guru Ram Rai, Robber’s cave, Malsi deer Park, Lakshmansidh, Forest Research Institute and The Sericulture Centre are the places to visit in Dehradun.

Badrinath, Kedarnath, Shivpuri, Gangotri, Rishikesh and Haridwar are the major Hindu pilgrimage centres in India. These places are the most sought out temples in India.

Mussorie and Nainital are fascinating hill stations famous places amongst honeymooners in India. Corbett and Auli are other places that may interest you.

5) Haryana

This is a state noted for its scenic beauty and cultural extravaganza. The to-do list of Haryana is exhaustive and alluring. Starting from the Badkal Lake, Karna Lake, Bhindawas Lake to parks and gardens like Yadavindra gardens, Patel Park, City Park everything is magnificent. You also have places like Dabchick, Magpie, Sohna, Skylark, Surajkund, Star monument and Lat or a stone pillar apart from others.

6) Delhi

Delhi is the capital of India. It is the amalgamation of old and new and hence it can be divided as old Delhi and New Delhi. In New Delhi you can find the attractions like The Lotus Temple, India Gate, Old Fort, Jantar Mantar and Qutab Minar. In Old Delhi you can visit Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat and Chandni Chowk.

7) Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh is a world in itself says Ruskin Bond. It is one of the most diverse states in India. It has something to offer to every tourist ranging from adventures to spiritual culture or heritage sites.

Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. It has been significant for the royal romance of Nawabs. Bara Imambara, Jama Masjid and Clock Tower are a few important sites to see in Lucknow.

Agra is the most important place to be visited in India and this city is in Uttar Pradesh. Taj Mahal is one of the wonders of the world built with white marble and is the mausoleum of Shah Jahan’s wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Agra fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Jama Masjid and Chini Ka Rauza are few more sites to visit in Agra.

    Looking to visit pilgrim places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttranchal. Will go there in coming summer with my friends. No doubt India has so many places to visit that you hardly want to go on foreign trip. :)

    You have posted very interesting blog post on travel. i was in Shimla on this Holi and this was my great experience because in march i got snow fall experience in Kufri. This was my best experience ever in life because i never see snow. Now i feel; i should visit more place in future with my lovely wife.

    India looks like a great place to visit…I always make sure I have a map or a guide book of a place I want to visit so I can plan my trip and see all the places I want to see, without getting lost!! just a heads up for my fellow travellers there are so many companies that offer guide books and maps to help tourists get around.
