Mosquito bands or repellents

These are essential as mosquitoes breed in large numbers during the monsoons so you might wish to take some mosquito bands. Good thing about them is that you can wear them on your clothing or you can attach them to your bag. It creates a protective halo around you which will help you against malaria and dengue fever (Delhi is famous for this).

Rain coat or jacket and Umbrella

A rain coat or jacket is going to be essential if you are visiting India during the monsoons. But do make sure they are light and thin as most parts of India are still warm even during the rainy seasons.

This goes without saying but bring a small one so that you can fold it away in your bag.

If you have a sensitive skin then you bring a bottle of your favourite sunscreen.

Waterproof shoes

When it rains in India – it rains like crazy. So bring a pair of waterproof shoes. If you can, try to avoid slippers during the rainy season in India.

Don’t let the rains let you down. In many parts of the world rain is a nuisance but in India it’s a welcome change. Here’s a comprehensive packing list for India.

  2. Hi Shalu Sharma,
I have been planning to travel in this season to Nathdwara as resorts are cheaper at this time of the year. I think the things you have mentioned are very important. I have been continuously forgetting mosquito repellent to all my trip, now I can bookmark this link and use it as a directory. Although few other things that are important in my opinion are Plastic bags, for a layer of extra protection for electronics. Silica gel, to suck up all the moisture from inside of the bag. Germ killers and waterproof flashlight should not be forgotten. Also clothes which can be easily dried(polyester blends) should be packed rather than thick denims or cotton.

  3. Nice post, but do those mosquito repellent bands work? Is it battery operated? I’m from Bangalore and I hadn’t seen something like this till now. Sure could use one since with the onset of monsoons a swarm of mosquitoes have come uninvited!

  4. Excellent Info. Travelling is a joy, but when its rainy season you have take great care, otherwise you may not enjoy your trip and there is a danger of getting ill, you have included all essentials….. for a safe and pleasurable monsoon trip in India
